AUGUSTA, GA---Clinton Norman has two kids. He says Wednesday's clothing drive at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum comes right on time. He says, "It's right on time for a lot of parents that don't have the money to actually get the things that they need for their kids. It's a blessing in disguise."

It's made possible through a partnership between the museum and communities in schools. Together they service over 150 children from 6 different public housing developments.

Serrano Griffin says he can now breathe a sigh of relief. "It's an honor to have people care about you and the community to try and help do something for you. It makes you feel better about where you live."

"It's an exciting time for the students. They have got their bags full of clothing and they are ready to head back to school but there is much more that goes at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum," said Museum director Christine Miller-Betts. "We have classes in art, computers, field trips and all of those kinds of activities that will make their program an enriching one."

The summer-long program is now coming to a close. The clothing drive is the first of many scheduled through the weekend. But there is just one problem. Communities in Schools director Mary Crawford says, "We have about 150 students, but we only have one van, so we'll be really busy this weekend."

Mr. Norman's not complaining though. He says, "It's less money I gotta spend."

You can also spend a little less money this weekend. Thursday kicks off the first day of the tax free holiday in Georgia. South Carolina follows on Friday. That is only for clothes or shoes one hundred dollars or less and school supplies 20 dollars or less.
