WHERE:

WHY:
Every 14 seconds, someone in America is injured in a traffic crash. Every 13 minutes, someone is killed in a crash. Every year, more than 3,000 children ages 4 to 8 are killed in car crashes. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for Hispanics ages 1-34, and the sixth leading cause of death for all ages surpassed only by heart disease and cancer.

The Facts:

  • Infants under one year and 20 pounds ride rear-facing in the vehicle
  • Never place a rear-facing infant in front of an active airbag. The back seat is the safest place in the vehicle, especially for children ages 12 and under. Do not use side-facing or rear-facing vehicle seats for children in car seats
  • For Rear-facing infants under age one and 20 pounds, the harness is threaded through the slots at or below the shoulders
  • For forward-facing children over age one and 20 pounds, the harness is threaded through the slots at or above the shoulders.
