U.S. Rep John Barrow, D-Savannah, has been diagnosed and will be undergoing treatment for early state prostate cancer, according to a statement from his office.
Barrow will be undergoing radiation therapy and his doctors say they expect a full recovery. Prostate cancer affects approximately one in six men. Doctor’s discovered the condition during a Barrow’s annual physical exam.
"Cancer is something you never want to hear your doctor say," Rep. Barrow said. "But I'm very lucky to be living in an age of early detection and effective treatments. The good news is that the doctors expect a full recovery, and the therapy will not affect my ability to work."
His treatment will begin in late July and will continue into the August Congressional recess. This will prevent Rep. Barrow from missing any votes.
