AUGUSTA, Ga. -- New resolve and determination can be heard in gyms across the CSRA.
Doresa Hartley has a new resolution for 2012.
"Lose weight, I have to lose this weight," she said.
Yes, it's that time again. After all that food and fun, people like Hartley are ready for fitness again.
"My goal is to lose 100 lbs.," she said.
Jamal Reynolds just wants to stay in shape for the new year.
"Always try to start the new year off right," he said. "Getting an early start before the new year even starts."
All the heavy lifting and swift jogging can cost you, though. Membership prices can range anywhere from $10 to $50.
Brad Martin, the manager at Gold's Gym, said the gym has dropped its contracts and is waiving its enrollment fee if you sign up for its $19.99 a month program. Omni Club Fitness Center offers a similar promotion at $19 or $10 if you just want to use one location, but there is an annual fee you'll have to pay at $39.
The Family Y is doing away with its membership fee if you join before Jan. 31. At places like Anytime Fitness, a 24-hour gym, memberships can run anywhere from $30 to $39, depending on whether you sign a contract.
"You need to find something customized for you," Martin said.
Some places, like Gold's Gym, are offering free sessions with personal trainers.
"Hopefully that will get them involved with how to use equipment and how to keep it going," Martin explained.
We talked with one gym who says their fees will go up around the second or third week of January, so if you are looking to make a switch, do it soon. Before signing up for the membership, find out if you have access to other locations and classes which will help with keeping your workout different throughout the new year.
