AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The nation's oldest known physician is now a patient in the hospital.
University Hospital confirms 102-year-old Dr. Walter "Curly" Watson suffered a fall at his home over the weekend. He's currently in the intensive care unit.
Dr. Watson is the former Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospital. It is believed he delivered more than 15,000 area babies. Dr. Watson is also the oldest living graduate of The Citadel.
On his 100th birthday, he was recognized as the oldest known working physician in the United States. He's also the namesake of University Hospital’s W.G. Watson, M.D. Women’s Center, dedicated in 1999.
According to his family, Dr. Watson's condition is improving. Stay with News 12 as more information becomes available.
