AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A Florida man is in jail after being captured by the U. S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at a local motel in Grovetown.
Tyrone Markee James was wanted by the Sumter County, Florida Sheriff’s Office on 5 counts of sexual battery on a minor between the ages of 12-18 years old.
James left the Florida area before he could be arrested on these charges. From the investigation in Florida, police found out the man relocated to the Augusta area.
On Sept. 11, U. S. Marshals and Columbia County deputies went to a local motel in Grovetown. James was taken into custody without further incident and transferred to the Columbia County Jail to await extradition to Florida.
James was convicted of second degree murder in 2003, according to the U. S. Marshals Service. He also has a prior conviction of felony battery from 2012.
