COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) - Two people were killed after they fled a routine traffic stop Wednesday morning in Cobb County.
Marietta police pulled over a black 2011 Chevrolet Camaro "SS" at the intersection of Sandtown Road and Westside Drive on a traffic offense around 5:15 a.m.
As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped away. The officer did not pursue the vehicle and alerted other officers of the incident, according to Cobb County police.
Within minutes, the Camaro was spotted wrecked down an embankment about a half mile away at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Carruth Drive.
Both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the overturned car. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver has been identified as Marquis D. Parker, 28, and the passenger has been identified as Fernando J. Edwards, 31, both of Marietta.
Investigators believe that speed, alcohol and failure to use safety restraints were contributing factors in the crash.
