SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- A 14-year-old Savannah boy has been charged with murder in the slaying of his father, and his mother has been charged with trying to cover up her husband's death.
Police are releasing few details in the killing of Thomas Phelps, whose body was found Sunday in the garage of his home on Talahi Island. Savannah-Chatham County police and prosecutors confirmed Tuesday the boy, Preston Phelps, was being charged as an adult.
The Savannah Morning News reports the slain man's wife, Judith Ann Phelps, is charged with concealing a death, evidence tampering and lying to police. A Recorders Court judge ordered both suspects remain jailed without bond Tuesday.
The teen has asked that a public defender be appointed to represent him.
