CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Two suspects are in custody following a manhunt that started after shots were fired at a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Sonny Collins says the gunfire and resulting chase happened just north of Conway on Saturday evening when a trooper tried to pull a vehicle over. The driver sped off and at least one of those in the vehicle started shooting at the trailing trooper.
The vehicle eventually stopped and two people got out, again firing at troopers.
Law officers returned gunshots and took one of the people into custody. The other person ran into the woods, leading to a three-hour search that ended with the second suspect's capture.
