ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina State University has released the names of the three finalists to be the school's new president, and the school's interim president is not on the list.
The university said Friday the three finalists are Thomas Elzey, executive vice president for finance, administration, and operations at The Citadel; E. Newton Jackson, associate provost and associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of North Florida; and Leonard McIntyre, interim dean of the College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences at South Carolina State.
The university says the three finalists will interview with trustees during the week of April 8.
Dozens of students recently rallied, asking trustees to stop the search and give interim President Cynthia Warrick the job permanently. Hundreds of them also signed a petition supporting her.
