COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Artists are expected to come to the Statehouse to protest Gov. Nikki Haley's decision to eliminate all funding for the South Carolina Arts Commission.
A "Rally for the Arts" is being planned Monday evening on the Statehouse grounds, the day before the House returns to consider Haley's budget vetoes.
Two of those vetoes eliminated the entire $2.4 million budget for the Arts Commission. The governor's decision effectively shut down the agency because the vetoes came after the fiscal year had started.
Organizers of the rally are asking artists to dance, draw, play music or do other performances as their protest.
