Police investigate drowning deaths of 3 Ga. puppies

Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013

MOULTRIE, Ga. (AP) -- Police in a south Georgia town are investigating the drowning deaths of three puppies found in a large trash can filled with water after a home break-in.

The Albany Herald reports that the burglary suspect fled the Moultrie home after the puppies were drowned in the trash can inside a bathroom.

Authorities say the resident returned home over the weekend and found evidence of the burglary, and the bodies of the puppies.

Police said they've identified a person of interest, but did not disclose further details.

Authorities say that if they apprehend a suspect, he or she would likely be charged with criminal damage to property and three felony counts of animal cruelty.
