COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a man was fatally shot by campus police at Georgia's Columbus State University after officers responded to a weekend call reporting someone seen loading a gun.
Authorities say the man wasn't a student at the university and that no one else was hurt Sunday afternoon when police reported they chased the man on foot near apartments on campus, about 100 miles southwest of Atlanta.
University Police Chief Rus Drew told The Associated Press officers were called at 2:35 p.m. Sunday and that shots were fired after a short foot chase.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting.
