IRMO, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina boating club is offering ways for families to stay safe on the water ahead of the Independence Day holiday.
The Lake Murray Boat Club is making children's life vests available starting Tuesday to people planning to enjoy the lake over the holiday. Club officials say many boaters have plenty of adult life vests but don't have the right sizes for children.
The loaner vests are available through June 29. That's the date of Lake Murray's annual fireworks display.
Organizers say they also expect boaters to pick up free Light up the Lake safety kits that are available again this year. Boaters can use the glow sticks for temporary help if navigational lights go out.
Kits also include whistles, first aid kits and a boating safety handbook.
