AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Good Samaritan who saved a child from a hot car is being called a hero.

Safe Kids Of Greater Augusta gave Nick Ortalaza the Safe Kids Badge Of Courage Award on Friday.

Ortalaza called 911 last weekend when he and his found a little boy locked in a hot car in an apartment complex in Augusta.
Ortalaza was able to push the car window down and get the little boy out safely.

"I wanna believe that anybody else in this same situation would have acted just like we did and made sure to get that baby out of the car," Ortalaza said.

The little boy's father, Russell Givens, is being charged with deprivation of a minor. He was arrested and has bonded out of jail.
