NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) -- Teachers and students at a school in western Georgia have rallied around a 7-year-old girl who's still recovering in a hospital after being pulled from a well in her grandparents' back yard.

Brooks Elementary School Principal Julie Raschen told the Newnan Times-Herald on Wednesday that Megan Winters "is a precious young lady full of spirit and spunk."

On Dec. 30, Winters fell into a well in Whitesburg and spent about an hour inside it before she was lifted to safety by Carroll County emergency crews.

Raschen says parents of Winters' classmates have come together to support the girl's family with gift cards to cover gas and food, and have made trips to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston to deliver gifts for the family.
