ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) -- A city councilman is taking flak for his actions on a reality television show that features a group of wealthy Georgia women.
Critics of Alpharetta Councilman Donald Mitchell's role on the Style Network's "Big Rich Atlanta" say it tarnishes the reputation of the suburban Atlanta city.
Lee Guy tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the way Mitchell portrays himself is "demeaning to women and rather crude." Guy operates the blog Roots in Alpharetta.
Mitchell says that if anyone is offended by the show, he apologizes.
Mitchell says the show isn't scripted, but he is prompted to act a certain way. He said people who know him understand that what he plays on the show "is merely a character" and different than how he conducts himself in real life.
