COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A former Hampton County Sheriff's deputy has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
The State Law Enforcement Division said Monday 52-year-old Larry Heyward had also been charged with misconduct in office.
Police say Heyward had been working as a school resource officer. Police say Heyward fondled and had sex with a child between the ages of 11 and 14 between August 2010 and December of last year.
Heyward was booked into the Beaufort County jail. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
Police say Heyward faces up to 20 years in prison on the criminal sexual conduct charges and more prison time for the misconduct charge if he is convicted.
