FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) -- One member of the Florence County School District 1 Board says she'll continue to pray out loud despite the board's decision to hold a moment of silence instead of a prayer at the start of its meetings.

The Morning News of Florence reports that Pat Gibson-Hye Moore says a brief prayer aloud during the moment of silence, adding that no group or court can keep her from making a joyful noise to the Lord.

The board decided to end the prayer in February after a federal court decision reiterated that prayers before government bodies must be non-denominational.

The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says a school board member's decision to pray aloud during a moment of silence could be considered an official prayer by the board.
