SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say traffic cameras on a main freeway through metro Atlanta were malfunctioning Friday, the latest glitch for a system hit by copper thefts recently.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that unlike an earlier outage that affected a couple of cameras, the latest problem with the Georgia 400 cameras wasn't caused by copper thefts.

DOT officials say the most recent problem is due to a "malfunction of some kind" in the fiber optic network that relays images to the Georgia Department of Transportation's nerve center.

Video feeds from a pair of cameras on Georgia 400 at the Chattahoochee River in Sandy Springs first went dark during the afternoon rush hour on Aug. 27 after thieves stole equipment.

Then, all of the cameras on a lengthy stretch of Georgia 400 went out Thursday.
