COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott has taken an indefinite leave of absence.

City manager Teresa Wilson says Scott requested the leave for personal reasons. He will be paid his salary, $112,000 a year. Scott is using accumulated time off. It was not clear how much leave he has.

Ruben Santiago has been named acting chief. He has been the department's deputy chief.

Scott has been police chief since 2010, becoming the sixth person to hold the post in the previous seven years.
