LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out on a charter boat with 40 people aboard off the Carolina coast.

The fire was reported in the engine of the 75-foot West Wind late Wednesday when the vessel was about 11 miles off Little River. There were no injuries reported.

Coast Guard crews responded by boat from nearby Georgetown and Oak Island, N.C. A helicopter from Charleston also was dispatched.

By the time the Coast Guard arrived, the fire had been extinguished. The vessel used one engine and was escorted by the Coast Guard back to its homeport of Calabash, N.C.
