ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say they have arrested a 78-year-old Oconee County man in the slaying of a woman working as a waitress at a Waffle House in neighboring Athens.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports the Oconee County Sheriff's Office announced at a news conference Saturday that Talmadge Edward Powell had been charged murder four days after deputies found the body of 38-year-old Misty Michelle Myrick.
Myrick was found dead by a roadside Wednesday less than 90 minutes after ending her shift at the Waffle House in downtown Athens. Sheriff's investigators say Myrick was killed by a single gunshot to her back, and they believe she was shot at Powell's home. Authorities say the slain woman and the suspect knew each other.
It was not immediately known if Powell had a defense attorney.
