UPDATE: Suspect arrested in aggravated assault; victim in critical condition

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An Augusta man was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly beating a man and leaving him in critical condition.

Walter Lee Hopper of Augusta was picked up on 15th Street around 8 a.m.

Just after midnight, deputies responded to a call about a man beating another man in front of the Salvation Army on Greene Street. The victim, Paul Lee Adams, is listed in critical condition at Georgia Regents Medical Center.

Deputies found Adams bleeding from wounds to the his face and head. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says he has a fractured skull.
