MARION, S.C. (AP) -- Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson says he will investigate and also ask the State Law Enforcement Division to look into allegations that actress Cherie Johnson and actor Dennis White were objects of racial profiling in the county.
Johnson, known for her role in the TV show "Punky Brewster," and White, who appeared in the movie "Notorious," are black.
Johnson told CNN the couple was driving through the county in northeastern South Carolina on Sept. 22 when they stopped to look out at a farm field. When they returned to the car, a sheriff's cruiser was behind their vehicle.
She said the white officer harshly questioned them about drugs - they had none - and cash in their bags. He handcuffed them for a time but later let them go.
