LILBURN, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities in Gwinnett County say an accused shoplifter has been fatally shot by police.
Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley tells WSB-TV they were responding to a call about a shoplifter at a dollar store Monday and the suspect became combative when an officer approached him.
Police say the officer tried subduing the man with a stun gun and the man was able to take the weapon away from him. Police say the officer shot the man twice, wounding him in his chest and face.
Officials say the officer was not injured and the man's identity has not been released.
Lilburn is about 20 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
