AAA: SC gas price drop sharpest in 4 years

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The average price for a gallon of gas in South Carolina dropped 12 cents in the past week.

AAA Carolinas says it's the sharpest one-week decline in the price of gas in four years.

The motor club based in Charlotte, N.C., reports the average for a gallon of gas Wednesday was $3.36, compared with $3.48 one week ago. The price of a gallon has dropped 27 cents since mid-September, although the price is still 11 higher than a year ago.

The motor club attributes the drop to lower crude oil prices and worries about a weakening world economy. The dollar is also stronger and there's been a drop in gasoline demand.

The Greenville-Spartanburg area has the lowest average price at $3.30 a gallon. Charleston is highest at $3.48.
