MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Fire officials near the South Carolina coast say a wildfire has been contained after it burned several acres not far from the area where a fire burned 30 square miles earlier this year.
Multiple media outlets reported the fire was contained Wednesday evening after about three hours.
Horry County Fire Rescue spokesman Todd Cartner says no homes were threatened by the blaze near U.S. 501 and state Highway 31. Cartner says the fire started when a truck on state Highway 31 lost a tire.
The National Weather Service early Thursday canceled a smoke advisory for the area. The weather service says smoke was not affecting travel.
No injuries have been reported.
The fire Wednesday was about six miles from the April fire that destroyed about 75 homes and caused about $25 million in damages.
