It's being called one of the biggest economic development announcements ever for Augusta.

ADP, a data processing company, will locate in the Garden City, investing millions and bringing a thousand new jobs to the area.

To say it's a good day for Augusta may be a bit of an understatement today. It's not every day, or year for that matter, that you get a Fortune 500 corporation announcing plans to locate here.

While this whole thing has been in the works for some time now, boy, was it kept a secret.

ADP, an international data processing corporation, will invest $30 million for a business solutions center in the garden city, bringing at least one thousand new jobs to the area.

"You know what it means for me? I'm in that grandparent stage of life, and it means that my children or my grandchildren may not--if I lived here--may not have to leave the Augusta area to find a good job," said Georgia governor Sonny Perdue. "That’s getting down personal, you know."

It's a deal that was months in the making. Once it was a sure thing, Mayor Copenhaver had a tough time holding in the good news.

"It was difficult," he told News 12. "I tell you, I felt like a kid on Christmas when I found out we had the deal signed about three weeks ago."

ADP, mainly a payroll and human resource provider, has over half a million clients worldwide.

Senior Vice President Steve Penrose stated, "We really do believe we can be the employer of choice here in town, which will give us a better retention, better service."

"One thousand jobs," Gov. Perdue said. "Woo!"

And more good news: folks won't have to wait too long to see these jobs. The company will begin hiring and training at the beginning of the year.

They'll be operating out of a temporary facility at Augusta Tech, and in March, they'll begin construction on a facility off Wheeler Road.
