Few can run
Ronnie Few remains in the race for Augusta mayor.
The Richmond County Board of Elections backed him at yesterday's hearing on a 3 to 1 vote.
Few told board members that he has lived in Richmond County for the past six years, even though he signed a homestead exemption in Columbia County in 2003.
When grilled about the filing and late change of his driver's license in July, Few replied that it was really all a misunderstanding.
"It was a misunderstanding," he said. "I never would have signed that to say that I moved. I thought that I could sign it and get credit for any place that I owned in the state of Georgia."
Both Woody Merry and Melanie Roy say there may try to appeal the ruling.
Former school counselor charged with lewd act on student
A former school counselor is facing charges after she allegedly kissed and lay on top of a 13-year-old girl.
26-year-old Sharon Baston was arrested Tuesday and charged with lewd act on a minor and indecent exposure.
It happened at the John De La Howe School in McCormick County.
This makes it the second time in just two months a sex crime was committed on school grounds in McCormick, and parents say they've had enough.
"Horrible," says parent Martina Peterson. "Makes you feel not safe. Our kids should not feel like that."
The superintendent of the school tells News 12 the counselor was immediately suspended and then fired after it was brought to their attention.
School bus aide allegedly spanks special needs child
A bus aide is under investigation following an incident at River Ridge Elementary.
The incident report says 41-year-old school bus aide Lasonja Carlos is accused of grabbing a special needs student and spanking him after he tried to run up the sidewalk to the school last Friday.
The 5-year-old's mother told News 12 that the boy is a special needs student with Downs Syndrome and doesn't realize running down a sidewalk is a danger to him.
The Columbia County school system put Carlos on paid administrative after the incident.
