Few responds to residency questions

The residency of Augusta mayoral candidate Ronnie Few came into question last week when paperwork he filed in Columbia County's tax office surfaced.

The confusion stems from a homestead exemption application he signed for an Evans home.

But his eligibility for mayor rides on him having lived in Richmond County for at least one year before the election in November.

Few says this is all a misunderstanding.

Few's current address is the Port Royal in Augusta. He says he's lived there for three years and has voted in Richmond County for three years, and that what happened in Columbia County last April was a mistake.

"I didn't quite worry about the fact that where I live 'cause I knew where I live at," Few told News 12. "You can't fool people. People have seen me for three years going in and out of my place."

That place is Augusta's Port Royal, where Few says he's lived and paid taxes since 2003.

But we wondered how that's possible if just last April he applied for a homestead exemption on an Evans home. By signing the document, he swore he "actually occupied" the residence.

"You know what, I misinterpreted that paragraph, and I don't even have anything that I want to dispute about that," Few said.

Few says he did live at 204 Mineral Court for roughly six months, but he doesn't remember when.

"Well, I can't tell you what year, but it's been about five years."

He also admits he's owned several properties, including one in Washington, DC, and he currently owns property in Atlanta.

He says his real estate investments are just that...investments.

As for applying for the Columbia County exemption, he says he did it by accident.

"I wasn't going down there to do anything with a homestead exemption, I was going down because I wanted to find out why they were showing that my taxes weren't paid."

Surprisingly, Few has not been back to the Columbia County tax office to clear this up.

Fraudulent claims for homestead exemption are illegal and could result in misdemeanor charges.
