The Augusta Commission now has a vacant seat to fill.
Today, Keith Brown met with Mayor Copenhaver and resigned as District 4 interim commissioner.
Last week, the Board of Elections disqualified brown from running in November because of residency problems.
Brown did not have to step down until after the election, but says he felt it was the right thing to do.
"I could continue to sit on the commission," he said. "That, I believe, would only divide the commission, divide the city, and only benefit me."
No one has been appointed to fill the seat.
Some commissioners have suggested appointing former commissioner Richard Colclough until either Alvin Mason or Bernard Harper is elected.
If the commission has not filled the seat after 45 days, the governor could appoint someone.
