COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The pilots of a Learjet that crashed on
takeoff from a South Carolina airport warned controllers the plane
was about to run out of runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration released an audio recording
on Tuesday of co-pilot James Bland telling controllers to alert
emergency personnel because the plane was "going off the end" of
the runway.
Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity disc jockey
DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were severely burned in
the Sept. 19 crash. Two of the musicians' close friends, the
plane's pilot and Bland were killed.
Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board reported
that the plane was traveling 156 mph just before the pilots tried
to abort the takeoff.
