New downtown theatre to house less mainstream productions Save Email Print

You may have noticed a bright yellow building on 8th Street. It will be the home of Le Chat Noir, a new black box theatre.

A group of five local partners bought the old building in March. Renovations have been going on since then and are expected to be complete in about three weeks.

"It's something that's needed in Augusta that's missing," says Justin Anderson of the Black Cat Company. "We're going to be doing everything from stage plays, meaning straight dramas, to small, musically very intimate, small casts, anywhere from 2 to 7 people."

The theater is located at 8th and Ellis in downtown Augusta. Its first show will be a play called "Wit", based on the 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama.
