5 area high school students arrested on drug charges

Several local high school students have been arrested on drug charges.

In North Augusta, 18-year-old Eric Benjamin Simmons is charged with simple possession of marijuana.

Reports say Monday, May 1, a K-9 unit from the North Augusta Department of Public Safety was called to the school.

The dog alerted deputies to an Oldsmobile that was registered with the school to Simmons. Less than an ounce of marijuana was found in the car.

In Columbia County, four high school students have been arrested on drug charges.

On Friday, 17-year-old Cooper James Crawford was arrested at Harlem High after marijuana was found in his car.

Monday, 17-year-old Nathan Gates and 18-year-old Meagan Fennell were arrested at Harlem High after a public safety officer found marijuana in a truck they were in.

And Tuesday, 18-year-old Evans High student Matthew Akins was arrested after 45 Xanax pills were found inside his book bag.
