6 young men are behind bars for their alleged involvement in a string of armed robberies.

Victims are reacting with sighs of relief, glad to see these alleged late night looters where they belong.

The day after her favorite diner was held up, Karen Taylor took her normal seat by the window.

"It's a horrifying experience for anybody to get robbed," she said. "You don't know whether they know where you live or anything. You don't know what these people will or can do."

Those people are six Augusta men, charged with armed robbery.

Several are high school students at Lucy Laney and one of them, Kenneth Walker, is a star senior athlete with a football scholarship to USC.

"You see someone with all kinds of promise and they have the future ahead of them and to throw their lives away for not much money at all," said investigator Scott Peebles of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

In fact, Peebles predicts no more than a combined $2000 was stolen from seven fast food restaurants.

A victim who we'll call "Bill" had a gun pointed to his head.

"Can't be no hero or nothing so you just got to cooperate," Bill says. "I just hope nothing else like this happens to nobody."

Investigators wish the arrests could have come sooner, but due to a lack of leads they were off to a slow start.

"We knew we were getting hammered so to speak by the same group and it is frustrating and creates a lot of anxiety when you know that they're going to hit again," Peebles said.

And what may have been frustrating for police was even more life threatening for restaurant employees and patrons.

The six suspects are being held at the detention center without bond.

The Richmond County sheriff's office has made arrests in nearly 70 percent of its armed robbery cases this year.
