ATLANTA (AP) -- The three Democrats eliminated from the U.S.
Senate race in Tuesday's primary are throwing their support behind
one-time opponent Jim Martin in the runoff.
Martin said Thursday he's honored to have the support of Dale
Cardwell, Rand Knight and Josh Lanier.
Martin, a former state lawmaker, is facing DeKalb County Chief
Executive Officer Vernon Jones in an Aug. 5th runoff for the
Democratic nomination. The winner will face Republican incumbent
Saxby Chambliss in November.
Jones won 40 percent of the vote in Tuesday's primary and Martin
34 percent.
Cardwell, Knight and Lanier were each making their first
attempts at elected office. Together they earned about a quarter of
the primary votes cast.
