Kia to build assembly plant in West Point, Georgia

A huge economic boost for western Georgia.

Governor Perdue went to Korea to announce that Kia will build its new car assembly plant at West Point, Georgia. That's near I-85 and the Alabama state line, north of Columbus.

The plant will be built on 2200 acres and should be in full operation by 2009.

It will bring 2800 manufacturing jobs, and nearly that many supplier jobs to that region.

It's a boost, especially after Ford and GM announced plans to close assembly plants in Georgia.
