Under a bill passed by the Georgia House, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses across the state will be allowed to write prescriptions.
Representative Sue Burmeister said if the bill passes the Senate, it could improve access to health care and save patients visits to doctor's offices.
The legislation passed by a 146-to-6 vote yesterday.
Current law allows APRN’s -- nurses who hold master's degrees and are certified by a national board -- to phone in prescriptions, but not write them.
