A lot of unanswered questions linger after an Augusta man was shot and killed.
It happened early Sunday morning at the 1900 block of Wylie Drive off Highway 56.
Around 4:30 AM, Travis Phillips and his girlfriend were awakened by a loud noise at the front door.
When he got up to check it out, he was startled to find two strange men standing inside his home.
Sgt. Calvin Chew of the Richmond County sheriff’s office told News 12, “[Phillips] observed two subjects in his bedroom and shouted for them to get out of his house.”
When one of the intruders approached him, Phillips fired two shots. Both of them struck 24-year-old Bobby Dale Hutto--once in the leg and again in the back.
He was found lying outside the house and was later pronounced dead at MCG.
Officers say the homeowner's girlfriend may have known the intruder.
“She was familiar with him but from what we're getting there isn't any kind of physical relationship. She may have worked with him briefly,” said Sgt. Chew.
For now, there is no clear reason as to what would make Bobby Hutto break into this home off Wylie Drive in the middle of the night.
Investigators are still looking for the second man who broke into the home on Sunday. No word yet on whether Bobby Hutto was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
