Maurice Wilson was found barely breathing at the Edgefield Jail Tuesday afternoon. He’s the man charged with killing his wife, Gwendolyn Denise Wilson late Sunday night. News 12 has the latest.
It was a short stay at the Edgefield County Jail for Maurice Wilson after he was brought in from Laurens County around midnight. Officers say he stabbed his wife to death, a reality he could not live with.
Investigators say 32-year-old Maurice Wilson was taken to what is called the “dayroom” at the Edgefield County Jail. It’s an area where inmates can go when they are let out of their cell. They only amenity is a TV.
Officers say he was there alone. It wasn’t until about one o’clock in the afternoon that they discovered he appeared to have hung himself, just barely breathing.
He was being held for murdering his 25-year-old wife, Gwendolyn Denise Wilson, on Sunday night. Family members say Gwendolyn’s nine-year-old son watched Wilson stab her to death.
“They said Maurice killed my mom, and I walked in the house and she was laying in all the blood,” said Gwen Morgan, victim’s mother.
Her grandson told her Maurice stabbed Gwendolyn because she wouldn’t talk to him.
“She said I’ll talk to ya, I’ll talk to ya and he kept doing it,” Morgan said.
Gwendolyn was one of Thelma’s regular customers at the County Line Store, although she never told her, Thelma knew Maurice beat his wife.
“She didn’t have to, I saw it, I thought she was going to lose her eye,” Thelma Ouzts said.
