In the last month two people have found themselves the victims of ID fraud at local hospitals. As News 12 reports, now investigators need your help arresting the scammers.

Richmond County investigators are looking for Tashon Turner. They say she used a Clarkston woman’s name to get medical care at University Hospital and East Central Regional Hospital.

“She started receiving bills in the amount of $3,500 from University and Georgia Regional,” said Investigator Michael McDaniel.

The victim hasn’t lived in Augusta for almost 10 years. She knew Turner in elementary school and last used University Hospital as a child.

And last month a Trenton man started receiving bills for breathing treatment at Aiken Regional Hospital. This man hasn’t been to Aiken Regional in several years.

Investigators believe in both cases the suspects simply walked in to the hospital and gave the name and date of birth of the victims at the front desk. Because the victims were both former patients, their social security numbers and billing addresses were already on file in the hospital computer.

Investigator Michael McDaniel admits there is little hospitals can do to prevent this.

“Ask for ID, some sort of picture ID,” McDaniel said.

But even then, a scammer may be using a fake ID. If you find yourself a victim of hospital ID fraud, quick reporting is key.

“The sooner you call your sheriff’s department, the sooner we can get that location and obtain photos, video and whatever,” McDaniel said.

It may work in this case, University Hospital employees snapped a shot of Turner and investigators matched it to her mug shot. Aiken Public Safety does not have a suspect for the Aiken Regional Case. If you know where Tashon Turner is, call the Richmond County’s Sheriff’s Office.
