It's tax season, complicated forms can lead to errors. That means you could lose money. News 12 is on your side with where to find help so your money stays where it belongs.

Experts say math is the number one mistake people make. And this could delay any refund you may have coming. April 15th grows closer every day, so it's time to fill out the paperwork.

Sonny Quinn turns to software to make sure he gets his refund on time.

"It’s for beginners. I've used it for five or six years, and the only thing you really have to do is put in information from your w-2," Quinn said.

Software expert Mike Swain says it's easy to use as long as you have internet access.

"Basically it's 1-2-3. Put in your w-4, put in all your numbers, follow the question and answers," Swain said.

H&R Block district manager Stephen Harvey says filing online can keep errors to a minimum, and the refund comes faster.

"Millions and millions of returns are being mailed in to the service centers," Harvey said.

When the w-2 comes in, the government may owe you money for certain things, like charitable donations and some medical expenses.

Senior financial adviser Rolla Bonner helps taxpayers pick the right ones.

"We find out what kind of income they have before we start on their tax return," Bonner said.

Even with help, it's still a complicated process for Sonny Quinn.

"It’s just so difficult to try to remember everything," Quinn said.

For people like him, the forms aren't always clear. Most experts say taking your time is one of the most important things you can do is make sure to double check everything.

The IRS requires a tax return from most people, the amount varies depending on certain factors like age and income level.
