Gunshots fired in Evans Thursday night and it appears as though a teenager pulled the trigger. It happened at 47-54 silver lake drive about a mile from Silver Lake itself. News 12 is on your side with where the investigation stands tonight.

It's a neighborhood where yellow crime tape like this isn't seen very often.

“I've never felt unsafe in this neighborhood or the Woodridge neighborhood I live in or anything like that,” said Austin Jenkins.

It's why drivers were curious why officers had surrounded this home at 4754 Silver Lake Drive Thursday night, directing traffic with flashlights while investigators worked inside.

"We rode by up the street and we saw the house taped off and the front doors wide open. There's a couple cop cars,” said Tory Rushing, Silver Lake resident.

According to Captain Steve Morris, it all started at 5 p.m. when two 16-year old males got into a fight. One of them hit the other in the head with a golf club and then fired two gunshots in the opposite direction in an alleged effort to scare him away. The teen who pulled the trigger lives here and it's where News 12 spoke with his family's attorney. He chose not to comment on camera but did say his client will likely be charged as an adult before his case is moved to juvenile court.

"Growing up, probably seen a grand total of ten police cars in this neighborhood and that's probably like fifteen years, ten years," Jenkins said.

Those similar in age to the two young men involved say it's a rare occurrence for this quiet part of Evans, famous for its lake and known best by the families who live here.

"Usually there's not much spotlight on either of the neighborhoods so we like to keep it that way,” Jenkins said.
