Little One Left Behind

January 6, 2006
As nine balloons representing nine victims raise to the sky, one balloon is left behind, just like the small hand that holds it. This is Steven Bagby Jr. He’s one year and 10 days old. His dad worked at Avondale Mills and was killed from the chlorine spill.

With a special song and ceremony, the town remembered all the victims on Friday making sure their pain turns to a strong future for little Steven.

“God will give us the victory because our people have a determination,” said Representative Rowland Smith.

Even Steven’s future peers are here.

Julie Harris understands some of the tragedy last year.

“We couldn’t go outside because of the chemical spill,” Julie said.

Earlier Friday morning, she gathered with families for a vigil. Though their pain is still here, this community is clearly joining together, creating a future for so many little ones.
