Your kids aren’t the only ones counting down the days ‘til Christmas. Retailers are also looking to gain something over the holidays. And it starts with Black Friday. News 12 is on your side with a look at the sales and early openings in our area.

It’s a day with a little plastic, a little paper, and a lot of patience.

“We have three kids and a lot of shopping because the five-year-old, everything she sees she wants,” said Wendy Inglett, Wal-Mart shopper.

It’s why the Ingletts started at 11 o’clock Friday morning, carting a carriage full of toys for their tots at home.

“Fisher Price Three-in-One Rock and Roll Rider for our little girl,” Inglett said.

The day after Thanksgiving is better known as Black Friday. Last year, shoppers spent $23 billion, that’s almost one billion dollars per hour. Retail giants like Wal-Mart can’t wait to cash in.

“Oh we talk to ‘em weeks ahead of time, plan of action, what we plan on doing and everything and every employee is on the same page, everybody knows what to do,” said Rodney Easton, Wal-Mart Assistant Manager.

So with each employee working a ten-hour shift, Wal-Mart is working to keep lines short. While at Target, shoppers wrapped around the store when it opened first thing at 6 a.m.

“I’m not actually looking for any one in particular, I’m just trying to find a bargain,” said Julie Patterson, Target shopper.

“DVD players, LCD TV’s, toys, home furnishings and home décor products are popular,” said Richard Fisher, Sr. Team Leader.

“We’ll still be out here, probably on Christmas we’ll be out here,” Inglett said.

By midnight on Friday, Wal-Mart managers expect to have doubled their average number of customers, a profit they hope can ride through Christmas.

“Normally, the Saturday right before Christmas is very busy to us, too. So we’ve already got plans for that also,” Easton said.

“I’m tired, I’m ready to go home,” Inglett said.
