Dollar Store Robberies

News about a rash of robberies involving Dollar General and Family Dollar stores in our area…News 12 has learned that investigators in Richmond and Columbia Counties are working together to see if any of the robberies are connected.

The latest robbery was at the Dollar General store 51-30 Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown. News 12 is on your side with ways to stay safe.

Cindy Lawrence is a regular at this Dollar General store on Wrightsboro Road. But the news of an armed robbery at one of her favorite stores is a worry.

“Yes, it concerns me cause you don’t want like this in your neighborhood,” Lawrence said.

“It’s getting so bad I’m telling you, it’s dangerous for people to even get to,” Anonymous.

As investigators search for clues around the store and behind the store near this apartment complex, it’s back to business at the store. It’s hard to imagine anything went Wednesday night when two armed robbers demanded and ran off with money from the store as employees were closing.

“At this time it is an undisclosed amount of money that they have taken from this business,” said Capt. Gary Owens, Grovetown Public Safety.

This is the latest in a rash of robberies at Dollar General stores and Family Dollar stores in the CSRA. Employees at the Family Dollar just down the road are worried they could be next.

“It seems that the Dollar General and Family Dollar, the ones you’ve seen in the news recently that these businesses have been the recent target of such events,” Owens said.

And even a bigger concern, customers that may be caught in the store during a robbery.

“When I go in I know what I’m going for my articles. I have it written down what I want, I go in there, I get it, I go to the cashier and pay, I come out and get in my car and I go home,” Anonymous.

“Customers should always be aware of situations out of the norm or not comfortable,” Owens said.
