Electric heating bills are expected to go up five percent this winter and many families are trying to find ways to save. News 12 is on your side with some electric billing options that may save you some cash.
Many families are deciding to go with a billing program that is customized just for them. That way they have no surprises on the amount of their bills every month.
Georgia Power offers two billing options. First, budget billing is used to reduce large differences between your monthly payments. For example, budget billing takes your average over the past 12 months in order to get your monthly payment. If your average is $65, that is what you are billed for the next twelve months. However, if you use more than $65 per months, you’ll be charged that at the end of your 12-month agreement. Basically, you still pay for everything, it’s just at the end of 12 months is when you will be charged the difference if there is any.
You’ll never be surprised with this type of bill. Based on your past electric usage, flat bill will give you your new payment and that’s what it will be for the next 12 months no matter how much you use and at the end of 12 months there are no fees.
In both programs there is no cancellation for 12 months. If you do cancel before your time is up, you will be penalized a fee.
Other companies like Jefferson Electric offer levelized billing and senior citizen billing. Also SCE&G offers similar options.
If you just want to find ways to cut back without special billing options, the Department of Energy’s website has a list of ways to save on energy as best you can. And you can click here to download a list of agencies in town that provide energy assistance.
