AIKEN CTY, S.C. -- Investigators are working to find out if a suspect fired shots at an Aiken County deputy.

Lt. Michael Frank tells News 12 a deputy was following a suspicious pick-up truck. She said it didn't have tags. It never turned into a chase, but she stayed with the truck as it turned down Silver Bluff Road near Highway 278.

That's when she noticed a man unloading something from a shed in the 3000 block of Silver Bluff Road near Highway 278. He took off, and she thought she heard some shots fired. Investigators can't say for sure that's what happened at this point, though. They are looking into if anyone fired a gun.

Right now, deputies believe the man took off running because he had some outstanding warrants.

He got away. Deputies used a helicopter to help in their search.

Again, investigators aren't sure yet if anyone fired at the deputy.
