GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities are trying to determine if a body found in Laurens County is one of the suspects shot at by an FBI agent during a robbery in Greenville last month.
Coroner Nick Nichols says the man was shot in the heart and likely died in minutes. His decomposed remains were found Tuesday night off a dirt road. The man's identity has not been determined.
Greenville police are investigating if the man might have been one of two men in ski masks who robbed a vacationing FBI agent and two other people at gunpoint April 27.
Authorities say the agent fired a shot at the men as they ran toward a waiting vehicle.
Police investigating the robbery have asked authorities in surrounding areas to watch for bodies or people looking for medical treatment for a gunshot wound.
